Thailand is one of the countries in Southeast Asia where tourists from around the world can get visa-free entry for stays of up to 30 days. This includes citizens of the US, Canada, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand as well as a number of European nations and other countries in Asia.
The Thailand Tourist Visa allows you to enter and exit the country as many times as you like, but it is also possible to overstay your visa. If you do, it will usually cost you a fine of 500B per day and a maximum of 20,000B. This is the reason why it is advisable to book your Thai tourist visa in advance of your trip.
You can find out about the different tourist visas in Thailand by visiting the website of the Immigration Bureau. This includes information on the types of visas available, their expiry dates and a list of the offices where you can apply for a visa.
Single-Entry Visa
If you’re planning on staying in Thailand for more than a month, it’s recommended to apply for a single-entry tourist visa. These are valid for 60 days and can be extended by the immigration office if you need to extend your stay.
This is a popular choice for travelers who want to spend their time in Thailand doing a range of activities, including trekking, scuba diving, and completing a Muay Thai training course. It’s also an ideal option for those who want to see as much of the country as possible while still having plenty of time to relax, unwind and recharge.
Financial Requirements
The Thailand tourist visa requirements are the same as those of any other country in the world and include evidence that you have enough money to support yourself during your stay, which should be shown in the form of a recent bank statement. You can also provide a sponsorship letter from a family member or friend who lives in Thailand.
A covering letter from a company or employer is another useful document to present with your application. It should be written on the company’s letterhead and specify your name, passport details with a valid date and the period of your travel.
In addition to the usual documents, applicants are also required to produce passport-sized photos of themselves taken in the last six months and proof that they have sufficient funds to support themselves during their stay. The minimum amount of money is 20,000 THB for an individual and 40,000 THB for a family.
You can track the status of your application online through the official visa agent VFS Global, which is authorized by the Royal Thai Embassy to process tourist visas in Thailand. Once the application has been approved, you will receive an e-Visa in your email.
Generally speaking, most applications are processed within three working days but may take longer if the embassy requests additional documents from you. Please submit your application as early as possible in order to avoid any delays during the processing.
